What we check on every visit

The things that cause the big damage in an empty house in winter, and the ones insurers want to see looked after.

Heating and temperature

The system is running, the thermostat is at the agreed setting and the house is holding its heat.

Leaks and pipes

Under sinks, around the water heater and the sump pump. Taps run and toilets flushed so water keeps moving.

Snow and ice

Build-up on the roof, ice at the roof edge, walkways and driveway cleared.

Power and appliances

Power is on, fridge and freezer running, smoke and CO detectors quiet.

Doors, windows and exterior

Everything closed and intact, to keep the heat in and the weather out.

Photo and video report

After every visit you get a report with photos and videos in your portal, plus a visit log for your insurer.

How it works

In line with your insurer's requirements

Many Quebec home insurance policies limit coverage for water damage from frozen pipes when a house sits empty for more than a few days in heating season, unless someone checks it regularly.

Nid Chaud keeps a dated log of every visit, with photos, that you can hand to your insurer.

Understand the requirements

Our role, simply put
